Religion and Science Research Guide: Find Books and Media

An introductory companion to research on the overlapping areas of the natural sciences, philosophy and systematic theology.

Finding Books in the APU Libraries

There are two ways to find books in APU's online library catalog: you can browse books by subject categories (subject headings), or you can do keyword searches for books that use specific words or phrases.

Below, I've given you some suggested subject headings to start with (if you're interested in browsing), as well as some tips for keyword searching. Once you've found books on your topic, you can proceed to the next step: finding articles on your topic.

Browse Books by Subject or Call Number Range

While the primary subject heading used for this topic is Religion and Science, it may be narrowed by time period, such as 20th century, or type of material, such as Religion and Science – Periodicals, or discussion, such as Religion and Science – History. See Religion and Science in the subject listing for the many potential subdivisions. LC classifies many works in the BL 239-265 range. The other classification ranges vary within each subject heading and you may be better served to search by subject instead of call number range. Where a distinct call number range is available, it is listed adjacent to the subject heading below.

Subject Bibliographies

Bibliographies are reference tools that refer the researcher to reference works, monographs, and other resources on a particular topic, and can be found at the end of encyclopedia articles, in syllabi, in books, and can actually be entire books themselves. This section includes the last type – that is, entire books that are bibliographies. Most subject bibliographies will include brief annotations, and may also provide other information relevant to the subject.
