NOTE

There are overlapping issues, concerns and questions in the disciplines of bioethics and biotechnology.  The terms are variously defined by experts and in the vernacular; each are used and understood broadly or narrowly and sometimes synonymously.  For the taxonomy of this guide, its coverage and addressing of topics and delivery of relevant resources, we will adopt Merriam-Webster's definitions of the terms:

Bioethics: a discipline dealing with the ethical implications of biological research and applications, especially in medicine. Biotechnology: 1. The manipulation (as through genetic engineering) of living organisms or their components to produce useful usually commercial products ....
