Free Open Access Publishing Opportunities for Azusa Pacific University Authors

Information on agreements that allow Azusa Pacific University authors to publish open access for free in selected journals.

Read-and-publish deal with Wiley

Azusa Pacific University, as a member of the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC), is part of a read-and-publish agreement with Wiley for January 2024 through December 2026. This agreement allows Azusa Pacific-affiliated authors to publish their articles Open Access in many Wiley journals at no cost to themselves (if grant-funded, authors will need to cover a $1000 APC fee).

In other terms, this agreement covers the Article Processing Charges (APCs) for Azusa Pacific authors whose research articles are accepted for publication in applicable Wiley journals from January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026.

Is my research eligible?

To be eligible, articles must:

  • Be an Original Research or Review article. (Article Type definitions)
  • Be accepted for publication in one of Wiley Fully OA Journals (336+) and Wiley Hybrid titles (1316+)
  • Be accepted between 1 January 2024 and December 31, 2026
  • Have a corresponding author affiliated with Azusa Pacific University (i.e. researcher, professor, adjunct faculty member, lecturer, graduate, or undergraduate student). The corresponding author may also be affiliated with select SCELC institutions or the California State University system.
  • Be submitted using their Azusa Pacific University email address.

How to publish Open Access under this agreement

What is the cost of the APC fees for APU corresponding authors?
  • APC discounts will be provided for grant-funded corresponding authors ($1000 of list price APC)
  • Full APC list is covered for Unfunded Authors

 As an author affiliated with this institution, which is part of an agreement with Wiley, you are automatically eligible for a 15% discount on your open access article processing charges (APC) as well as a $1000 subvention paid for by SCELC covered by your library's subscription fee. If you do not have research funds to contribute to the remaining APC after the discount and subvention, click the green “HELP” button at the bottom right of the screen on the Wiley site and a live Wiley Customer Support agent will route your request to the SCELC administrative dashboard.

How will corresponding authors from Azusa Pacific University learn that they’re eligible to publish open access at no cost to them or at a discounted rate?

There are many ways that authors may learn of their eligibility.   

  • By indicating their institutional affiliation as part of the article submission process (the system includes multiple checkpoints to encourage authors to match their institution to a standardized list).   
  • By using an email address associated with their institution’s organizational domain.   
  • By checking to see that their institution is listed on Wiley’s Institutional Eligibility Page.
  • Via an email campaign from Wiley which will only go to participating institution authors that have previously opted-in to be notified about open access opportunities.

Who handles that approval process and Is there a cap on the number of publications that fit under this agreement?
  • Approval is mediated by SCELC.
  • There is no cap on the number of publications approved.
